History
Birštonas in Lithuania
Lithuania is a beautiful country located in northeastern Europe, with over 3,000 lakes and ancient forests.
The Birštonas region in particular is famous as a health resort town and health resort rich in nature.
The earliest mention of the area dates back to the 1300s in medieval documents as a "farm surrounded by salt water - Birstein".
Fast forward to the 1800s, when it was awarded national certification as a hot spring therapeutic area and established its reputation as a resort.
Modern times: 1924 The Lithuanian Red Cross, together with the Health Department, took charge of the development of Birstonas, building a mud therapy facility and a medical mineral water centre (balneotherapy facility).
In the same year, Birštono mineraliniai vandenys was founded, which grew to become the largest company in Birštonas.
Even today, many people visit Birštonas in search of its mineral-rich water, both for drinking and for SPA treatments.
